BOSTON — Another high school hockey season is in the books.
The MIAA crowned its Division 1 and 2 girls state champions at TD Garden on Sunday.
The D2 championship got the day started, and it was all Milton as the No. 2 Wildcats peppered No. 5 King Philip from the start. Despite KP goalie Kiki Lynch's best efforts, Milton's Sabrina Stone and Maeve Lovett broke through in the second period en route to a 2-1 win for the program's first title.
In D1, Lydia Barnes' shutout kept No. 5 Archbishop Williams at bay as No. 6 Methuen/Tewksbury rode goals from Sammy Ryan and Ella Duffy en route to a 2-0 win and the program's second title, playing in honor of late coach Dave O'Hearn.
Every year, certain players step up in the clutch for their teams. This season was no different.

Lydia Barnes
Methuen/Tewksbury, Class of 2026, G, catches left, 5-6
NCAA: UMass Boston
Barnes was unflappable, playing with poise and making it look easy. She made several difficult saves look easy, including pushing to her left for a glove stop on McKenzie Lima-Tower's drive to the crease. Barnes also made key saves before and after Ryan's opening goal, including several stops on Lima-Tower in tight before stoning Emily Fleming on a drive to the net. After the goal, Barnes answered with a key glove save on Maddie Markarian flying into the slot off the rush. In the third, Barnes stretched her left pad to keep it scoreless as the puck tumbled toward the goal line. She surpassed 1,000 career saves in the first en route to the 18-save shutout, which was her 12th of the season.

Kiki Lynch
King Philip, Class of 2026, G, catches left
Lynch was arguably the best player on the ice. Until Stone broke through in the second, it looked as if Lynch might just steal the game. She finished with 36 saves, coming up big against high-danger opportunities from start to finish. The senior tracked pucks well through traffic and anticipated plays around the net. She was especially strong in the first period, keeping things scoreless with 18 saves as the Warriors managed just two shots at the other end. After Ella Morgan cut it to 2-1 in the third, Lynch made a massive save on Stone in the slot to keep Milton from regaining momentum. Lynch did all she could to will her team to the win.
Sabrina Stone
Milton, Class of 2026, F, right shot
Stone's line dominated the entire game, generating chances and chewing up offensive zone time. The senior played with pace, and her speed off the rush allowed her to consistently drive to the slot and create offense in transition. Stone opened the scoring on a shorthanded 2-on-0 with Lovett. Each hustled to get a step on the last defender to break it down from a 2-on-1. Stone drove to the slot and finished Lovett's feed with a perfect short-side shot.
Ella Duffy
Methuen/Tewksbury, Class of 2026, F, right shot
Duffy (Methuen, Mass.) was one of the emotional heartbeats for the Red Rangers all season, and her high compete was on full display throughout the D1 final. Her feet were always moving, and she made life tough on opponents. Duffy got a great look early in the third, flying into the zone on a partial break, but Maggie Shea made the save. Duffy got rewarded with the empty-netter, out-hustling everybody for the loose puck after Methuen/Tewksbury forced a turnover out high. It was a fitting end for her season.

Maeve Lovett
Milton, Class of 2029, F left shot
Lovett was just as good as Stone throughout the game, driving play for her line and generating chances in the slot. She set up Abby Coughlin in the slot off the rush, forcing Lynch to make a big save. Lovett also got a terrific look in tight early in the second period. She showed some great hand-eye to get her stick on Mairin Hart's shot from the point as she worked toward the front of the net. It went down as the eventual game-winner. Lovett was also strong on a late penalty kill in the third period.
Emily Fleming
Archbishop Williams, Class of 2027, F, right shot
Fleming (Hull, Mass.) was one of the Bishops' most impactful skaters throughout the game. Her line with Julie Murphy and Izzy O'Brien pushed the pace in transition and worked pucks toward middle ice. In the first, Fleming had a strong shot through a screen off the rush. She had another strong look in the second on a drive to the net. Fleming kept getting to the dangerous areas, and she nearly had a chance to tie it in the third. O'Brien's rebound off the rush just skipped by her stick.
Ella Morgan
King Philip, Class of 2027, F, right shot
Morgan (Norfolk, Mass.) was arguably KP's most impactful skater. Her speed put Milton's defenders on its heels, and it led to some Grade-A looks in the third. Early on, Morgan beat everyone to a loose puck in front and swiped it on net. Later, she took advantage of a Milton misplay at the point, going off to the races on a breakaway and scoring over the glove. Morgan also had a great chance early in the first when Steph Leblanc fed her in front before the puck pin-balled into the crease.

Maeve Burns
Methuen/Tewksbury, Class of 2029, D, left shot
The moment wasn't too bright for the young Burns (Tewksbury, Mass.), who played high-leverage minutes and thrived for the Red Rangers. She made key defensive plays, including a clutch clear on a rebound in front of the net in the first after a big save by Barnes. Burns got in front of another dangerous shot in the closing minutes of regulation, too. Earlier in the third, she got a great chance from the point, finding a shooting lane and getting a tip.
Mairin Hart
Milton, Class of 2026, D, right shot
Hart made plays in all three zones on the back end. She was effective in moving the puck through neutral ice. Some of her best defensive plays included winning a footrace in the first period to prevent Morgan from a solo drive to the net. In the third, Hart had a fantastic poke check and play with her skate to break up Emma Richard's rush at the blue line. Hart also kept a puck in at the point and quickly found a shooting lane to set up Lovett's tip-in for the eventual game-winner.
Sammy Ryan
Methuen/Tewksbury, Class of 2027, F, left shot
Methuen/Tewksbury's forecheck was one of the hallmarks of their championship effort, and Ryan's goal epitomized that. The Red Rangers had Archies scrambling, and Ryan gloved down a clearing attempt high in the offensive zone to keep the pressure up. She took it toward the slot and backhanded it on net. Sometimes, you need a little luck, too, as it skittered past Shea's stick and pads and into the back of the net. The Red Rangers never looked back.

Cam Katapodis
Archbishop Williams, Class of 2029, D, left shot, 5-7
Katapodis (Halifax, Mass.) had strong moments moving the puck for the Bishops, including on one regroup in particular in the second period. The freshman showed good skating as she quickly curled off pressure in the neutral zone and immediately found a passing lane for the outlet the other way. Katapodis also made a key shot block at the left circle on the penalty kill, preventing a golden look for Methuen/Tewksbury's Kenzie Dunnet.
Mia Cataruzolo
Milton, Class of 2029, F, left shot
Cataruzolo made a hell of a play to get the rush started en route to Stone's opening goal. After Caera Hart made a save in tight on the kill, Cataruzolo chipped the loose puck around the defender into space. She sped the other way with quick strides as Stone jumped into the play, and Cataruzolo's feed was well-timed before Stone did the rest. Cataruzolo was also disruptive and effective on the penalty kill late in the third.
