The ’07s: The Top 50 boys prospects in New England

New England Hockey Journal is unveiling a new series: Our top 50 prospects for the '07, '08 and '09 birth years.

We'll begin with the '07s.

There are some ground rules. For starters, players who finished the season in college aren't eligible. We included players who are New England natives and prospects who played in New England this past winter.

Every player was evaluated based on how good they are now, along with how I project them.

I've been watching the '07s since their 14U season. It's interesting to see how things have changed over the last four years. Some players who were Aug. 1 college commits have been passed, while others have maintained their standing.

The top 10 was actually the easiest part. Spots 11-50, however, were the hardest.

Let's dive in with the '07s.

Top 10 notes: While Amico spent the first half of the season at BU, he went back to the USHL to get some more seasoning, making him eligible for this. The rangy, 6-foot-5 defenseman is still the top '07 prospect of the group and has the highest ceiling. Two interesting debates: Mutryn vs. Chudzinski for top forward and Brosnan vs. Baldwin for next-best defenseman. Entire stories could be dedicated to both.

Graf and Donovan are two forwards who were highly productive at the prep and 18U level, who continued that level of production in juniors. Gould is an extremely dynamic defender, while MacAusland and Jones were stark standouts in prep.

11-20 notes: Interestingly, three of these players are uncommitted. Goalies tend to commit late, so it's not surprising that Fichthorn hasn't committed yet. Beveridge went to the QMJHL before the CHL ruling, so schools have only been recruiting him for the last year. Nee is the interesting one: Does a school pull the trigger before he goes to the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads? With his winter, he jumped into my top 15.

Senerchia's puck-moving abilities have translated well to the USHL. The same is true for Bongo, who has been in the USHL for two seasons. Phillips' size, skill and shot made him a force in prep this winter. Grossbard and Caron have both had ups and downs in junior, but are still top 20 '07s in New England. Krayer had a difficult 2024-25, but rebounded this winter with 60 points in 54 BCHL games so far. Broderick is a do-it-all force who should someday be a very good college hockey player.

21-30 notes: The first half of this group is junior kids, while the back half is all prep. All five prep players are intriguing uncommitted prospects who will likely have to prove themselves in junior before schools extend an offer. Hall and Fitzpatrick are especially attractive to schools due to their size.

Of the junior players in this group, none have reached their potential or are having overwhelming success in production. Munroe, in particular, has had his struggles in juniors. But their raw ability puts them in the top half of their birth year.

31-40 notes: Coccaro, Tavares and Martin are all Division 1 commits in junior hockey right now. Since moving to the Mountain Kings, Martin has 19 points in 25 games, while Tavares and Coccaro haven't been quite as productive, but are still very good prospects. Browne and Walkauskas were breakout stars in prep this winter, who should attract quite a bit of junior attention for next season.

Palmer has long been one of the top '07 goalies in New England, capping off a fantastic prep career with an Elite 8 championship. D'Olympio stood out as a lethal scorer on a deep Dexter team, while Cavanagh was the main event up front for Pomfret. Poinsett-Yoshida and Czaja are two extremely underrated prospects.

41-50 notes: This is an interesting slew of players. On one hand, there are the Division 1 commits in Potter, Lovell and Perler. They have shown glimpses of promise in different junior leagues this winter. The uncommitteds — Marchi, Lacombe, Graubins, McMurray, Woods, Rainisch and Garvey — are bubble players between Division 1 and 3. How they do in juniors will determine what level of college hockey they play.

Teams with the most players: For prep schools, Dexter Southfield had the most with four, while Berkshire had three. The junior team with the most was Sioux City with three. In the QMJHL, Saint John and Moncton each had two. Coquitlam led the BCHL with two.
