Carter Meyer has informed the U.S. National Team Development Program that he won’t be returning for his U18 season next fall.
USA Hockey still needs to grant his release.
The Winchester, Mass., native spent this past season with the NTDP's U17 team, where he posted 18 goals and 45 points in 41 games. He was moved up to the U18 squad, notching 18 points in 22 games.
He also played for Team USA at the World Junior Challenge in April, scoring once and tallying four assists in five games.
It was a possibility all season that Meyer would leave the NTDP. Last June, the Quebec Remparts selected him in the first round of the QMJHL Draft. His older brother, Freddy, played for the Remparts this season and is slated to again next year.
Meyer, a Boston University commit, came up starring for the Boston Junior Eagles. He made waves when he led Rivers in points (39) as an eighth grader, leading the Red Wings to the Small School championship game. As a freshman in 2024-25, his 70 points were second in the region, as he led Rivers to the Elite 8 semifinal game and won New England Hockey Journal's Player of the Year award.
Meyer's father is Freddy (Sanbornville, N.H.), who played four seasons at Boston University and eight seasons in the NHL. He coached both of his sons at Rivers from 2022-25.
