Monday was a good day for the future of the Boston College hockey program.
The Eagles landed a commitment from Sioux Falls Stampede center Cam MacDonald, one of the top ’03 prospects in North America.
MacDonald, from Hammond Plains, Nova Scotia, was signed to a tender by the defending USHL Clark Cup Champion following a terrific season with Selects Academy at South Kent. In 52 games with the school’s 15 Only team, MacDonald scored 72 goals and added 54 helpers for 126 points.
MacDonald adds to Jerry York’s program’s staple of very good ’03 prospects. BC also has landed verbal commitments Chilliwack Chiefs center Peter Reynolds, USA Hockey NTDP U-17 defenseman Aidan Hreschuk, Cushing center Billy Norcross, Avon Old Farms left wing Paul Davey and St. Sebastian’s center Tim Delay.
Black Bears add recruit, Warriors lose commit
Maine has received a verbal commitment from ’01 left-shot defenseman Bryden Sinclair of the NAHL’s Maryland Black Bears.
Sinclair, from Peguis, Manitoba, scored five goals and 21 assists in 60 games for OCN Blizzard in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League during the 2018-19 season.
Maine assistant coaches Ben Guite and Alfie Michaud have done a very nice job lately of procuring recruits from outside of the region. It will behoove the Black Bears to continue finding better talent in Canada than trying to go up against the likes of Boston College, Boston University, Northeastern and Providence within the New England region.
In other recruiting news, Merrimack lost a commitment as Penticton Vees defenseman Evan McIntyre switched his allegiance to Ohio State.
Bentley hires Needham
Bentley head coach Ryan Soderquist has hired Albany Academy and Neponset Valley River Rats 16-U head coach Steve Needham as one of his program’s assistant coaches.
Needham replaces Joel Beal, who left the program shortly after being hired to become an assistant coach at Providence College. In addition to his tenure at Albany Academy, Needham previously served as an assistant coach for Wesleyan University.
