There were quite a few New Englanders taken in this year's QMJHL Draft.
In total, 48 locals were snagged in the 12-round draft. The first local taken came on Saturday when Winchendon defenseman Tyler Poti (Sandwich, Mass.) was picked in the second round (32nd overall) by the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
One pick later, U.S. National Team Development Program-bound forward Jack Queally (Milton, Mass.) was selected by the Halifax Mooseheads.
An incredible nine New Englanders were taken in the third round. Future Green Bay Gamblers (USHL) defenseman Logan Cotter (Marlboro, Mass.) went 37th to the Newfoundland Regiment.
One of the more interesting picks in the third round was NTDP-bound forward Sam Lee (Woburn, Mass.), who went 54th to the Moncton Wildcats.
It was a big draft for Mount St. Charles, who had star 15O forward Thomas Boisvert taken first overall by Rouyn-Noranda. Boisvert is from Trois-Rivières, Quebec.
The total number of locals taken this year (48) was higher than last year's 37. That's not a shock, given the heavy presence of QMJHL scouts at New England games and showcases this past season.
As a reminder, the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League has regional rights in Quebec, Atlantic Canada, and New England.
