Good reads

  • The NHL and NHLPA have agreed to let federal mediators aid in their attempt to reach an agreement on a new CBA.

  • If those mediators can’t help and the season winds up getting scrapped, could this be the end of the line for a few popular veterans?

  • As the lockout continues to drag on, the odds increase that the game’s biggest star, Sidney Crosby, will head overseas.

Quick hits

  • Yale’s Stu Wilson was named Rookie of the Week in ECAC Hockey today. The Pittsford, N.Y., native helped the Elis beat Denver and Colorado College on the road.

History lesson

  • On this day in 1998, the Bruins spanked the visiting Habs by a score of 5-1. Ray Bourque, Rob DiMaio, Dimitri Khristich and Sergei Samsonov all had two-point nights for Boston and Byron Dafoe stopped 24-of-25. Jeff Hackett, who was later briefly a Bruin, allowed all five goals on 26 shots.

Today on NEHJ

  • Later on today we’ll have the latest Division 3 Journal from Mike Zhe, featuring Norwich University.

Entirely off-topic

  • First Charlie Sheen went crazy – OK, he was always crazy – but has one of his former Two and a Half Men costars also gone off the deep end? Angus Jones, who plays Jake Harper on the sitcom, says the show is “filth” and anyone who watches it should stop ASAP. Yikes!
