Many New Englanders vying for NHL spots

NHL training camps are winding down, but many New England natives are still pushing for spots with their respective clubs across the league.

Here's the latest on all the roster hopefuls and the established players from the region:

Keith Aucoin (WSH)
Chelmsford, Mass.

Cleared waivers and was assigned to Hershey (AHL) on Sept. 27.

Nick Bonino (ANA) 
Unionville, Conn.

Assigned to Ducks’ AHL affiliate in Syracuse on Sept. 26.

Brian Boucher (CAR)
Woonsocket, R.I.

Stopped all 14 shots he faced in preseason debut for ‘Canes.

Chris Bourque (WSH) 
Boxford, Mass.

Assigned to Hershey after strong camp with Capitals.

Ryan Bourque (NYR) 
Boxford, Mass.

Among last players cut by Rangers prior to assignment to Connecticut Whale (AHL).

Brian Boyle (NYR)
Hingham, Mass.

Had a goal and an assist in loss to Rangers future Winter Classic opponent, the Flyers.

Bobby Butler (OTT) 
Marlborough, Mass.

Hopes to build off of successful rookie year heading into first full season with Sens.

Joe Callahan  
Brockton, Mass.

Remained an unrestricted free agent as of Sept. 28.

John Carlson (WSH)
Marlborough, Mass.

Should remain united with defensive partner Karl Alzner on Caps blueline.

Chris Clark (BOS)
South Windsor, Conn.

Looking to catch on with Bruins after being invited to camp on tryout basis.

Charlie Coyle (MIN) 
Weymouth, Mass.

Rookie looking to crack rebuilding Wild’s roster.

Rick DiPietro (NYI)
Winthrop, Mass.

Battling with both Al Montoya and Evgeni Nabokov to be Isles’ starting netminder.

Benn Ferriero (SJ)

Ron Hainsey (ATL)

Veteran will be playing for his third NHL coach in the last three seasons.

Doug Janik (DET)

Expected to begin the year with team’s AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids.

Ben Lovejoy (PIT)
Canaan, N.H.

Hopes to help Pens coach Dan Bylsma achieve goal of team allowing 200 goals or less.

Paul Mara

Reportedly extended tryout invitations by both the Islanders and Rangers.

Greg Mauldin (COL)

Max Pacioretty (MTL)

Bout with the flu kept him out of first potential rematch with Zdeno Chara and the Bruins.

Tom Poti (WSH) 
Worcester, Mass.

Expected to begin season on LTIR due to groin problems

Jonathan Quick (LAK) 
Hamden, Conn.

Looking for third-straight season with 35-plus victories.

Cory Schneider (VAN) 
Marblehead, Mass.

Will look to earn more playing time after helping Canucks win the Jennings Trophy last season.

Ryan Shannon (TBL) 
Darien, Conn.

Will likely see time on a line withmark fayn idol Martin St. Louis and center Steven Stamkos.

Dan Spang (DAL) 
Winchester, Mass.

Placed on waivers by Stars on Sept. 24 in order to be assigned to Texas (AHL).

Brian Strait (PIT)
Waltham, Mass.

Helped his bid for spot with Pens by scoring a power-play goal in win over Wild.

Ryan Whitney (EDM)
Scituate, Mass.

Lingering ankle issues will likely force him to miss time when season starts.

Colin Wilson (NSH)
Greenwich, Conn.

Racked up four points in Predators first two preseason tilts.

Keith Yandle (PHX)
