Fayne happy to reach deal with Devils
Defenseman Mark Fayne (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) has agreed to a new
two-year deal with the Devils.
Given a qualifying offer in June, Fayne would have gone to arbitration in early August had the two sides not come to terms. His new contract is expected to be worth a total of $2.6 million.
Fayne played in all 82 games in 2011-12 for the Devils, notching 17 points. In 24 playoff contests, the 25-year-old blueliner chipped in three assists for the Eastern Conference champions.
The Providence College alum underwent wrist surgery shortly after the conclusion of the Stanley Cup finals. In a recent interview with New England Hockey Journal, Fayne said he’s healing on schedule and has high hopes he’ll be ready to go when the season gets underway in October.
The 6-foot-3 defenseman was certainly happy to get his contract taken care of and avoid arbitration.
“Yeah it was definitely nice,” said Fayne. “Now I can just focus on getting better and getting ready for camp.”
In 139 career NHL games, Fayne has eight goals, 31 points and a plus-6 rating.
