Hangin' Out With ... Rangers center Chris Kreider
Here's this month's Hangin' Out, featuring Rangers forward Chris Kreider (Boxford, Mass.):
What was the highlight moment of your 2012 playoff
run?
"I’d have to say the two overtime wins over the Capitals, with Marian Gaborik scoring the winner in triple overtime in Game 3 down in Washington and then Marc Staal scoring in the first overtime in Game 5 back home. It was pretty crazy. Games like that you’ll always remember."
What’s the biggest difference between Jerry York
and John Tortorella?
"Coach Tortorella shows his emotions and passions. Coach York’s a little bit more even-keeled. Coach Tortorella can be a bit of a yeller, and coach York’s definitely not, but both are really awesome coaches."
If hockey ceased to exist, what line of work would you
get into?
"I’ve got a lot of different passions. Maybe something with law. I took a few courses on that at BC and enjoyed that. A lot of the CBA stuff interests me. I like cars, so maybe something with cars and clean energy. Hopefully I can keep playing hockey."
What kind of car do you drive?
"I’m going to get a new car, hopefully, but right now I’m driving what my parents are driving."
Which teammate has the worst fashion sense? How
come?
"You’re putting me on the spot here! Can I say myself? In New York, I definitely had the worst fashion sense. I was wearing suits with holes in them."
Who’s the toughest goalie you’ve ever
faced?
"(Henrik) Lundqvist. Definitely him. You’ve got to put (world juniors teammate) Jack Campbell up there, too, just because of the way he competes in practice. He never quits on a puck and he’s a very good goalie. He’ll continue to improve and will eventually be an unbelievable goalie."
What was the worst course you had to take in school?
"I had Psychology as a Natural Science in college. I thought it was going to be interesting. The way it was taught was not very interesting."
If forced to do karaoke, what song would you pick?
“'Your Man' by Josh Turner."
If you could be any fictional character, who would you
choose?
"I’d probably be Superman. I’d want to be able to fly and run really fast."
