The Baillargeon Blog: Checking in from Day 1 at the combine
By Robbie Baillargeon
Editor's note: Robbie Baillargeon is a former prep hockey standout with Cushing Academy. He left New England to play in the USHL for the Indiana Ice in 2011-12.
After wrapping up a strong first season (48 points) with the Ice, the Connecticut native and BU-commit finished the year as the 50th North American skater on Central Scouting's final season rankings released in April.
With his excellent vision, hockey sense and work ethic, Robbie Baillargeon is in strong position to attract notice in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. (Photo courtesy of Indiana Ice)
Baillargeon will be filing an online diary of his experiences at the annual NHL Draft Combine in Toronto this week. In addition to meeting with numerous NHL clubs to conduct interviews, Baillargeon will also go through the physical testing portion (and medical assessment) at the end of the week.
NHL Draft Combine Diary: Day 1
Hey everyone. I'm Robbie Baillargeon and this is my 2012 NHL Combine Blog.
I am from Enfield, Conn., and this past year I played for the Indiana Ice of the USHL. I am committed to play college hockey at Boston University for the fall of '13.
Today (Tuesday), I woke up, ate some breakfast, finished packing up and headed to the airport.
As I arrived to the airport I received a phone call from BU coach Jack Parker, telling me to enjoy this week and have fun. That was pretty inspiring for me to hear. I then checked in and had lunch with my parents before heading over to the terminal. My flight over was pretty smooth and quick.
Before heading over to the hotel, I got to meet (Everett Silvertips defenseman) Ryan Murray, which was pretty cool. We caught the shuttle and headed over to the Westin. Upon arriving, I registered and got all my stuff. We got a gym bag, workout gear, sweatshirt and sweatpants, and a hat. I also received my schedules and then went to my room.
When I entered my room I met my roommate, who is Sam Kurker (Reading, Mass.). I was pretty excited since we're going to be teammates in two years at BU. I later met up with my now old teammate, Jon Gillies (South Portland, Maine), who is one of the top-ranked goalies here at the combine.
We got some dinner and then just relaxed at the hotel for the rest of the night.
Be sure to check back here throughout the week for
updates from one of the New England region's top draft eligible
