Editor’s note: This article originally appeared in the May 2011 issue of New England Hockey Journal.
Which sports teams did you grow up rooting for?
“I hate to say it, but I was a Leafs fan growing up. Obviously, that switched. I watched other sports, but I didn’t really have a team.”
What kind of jobs did you have before you became a pro hockey player?
“I just did regular jobs that kids had. I cut grass, picked strawberries, pulled trees and did some general yard work. “
What was the first car that you owned?
“A Honda Civic. I’m not sure what year it was, but it wasn’t an old clunker or anything. It was pretty nice, especially for your first car.”
If you were running for president, which teammate would you want as your VP?
“‘Thorty’ (Shawn Thornton) seems to be pretty good with the people. He seems to know a lot of people and he’s pretty sociable, so I’d probably pick him.”
What do you have to bring with you on the road?
“I always bring my iPod and my computer [laughs when teammate Dennis Seidenberg insists upon adding in his teddy bear]. That’s about it.”
What do you like to do during the offseason?
“I like to get back home to Prince Edward Island. It’s an amazing place during the summer with the beaches and the golf courses. When I finish my training for the day, I like to relax with my family by either golfing or getting to the beach, or just lounging around.”
If they were making the Adam McQuaid movie, which actor would you want to see play you?
“I’m kind of an Adam Sandler fan. I like a lot of his movies, and I find him pretty funny. I don’t know if it translates well looks-wise, but he’s one of my favorite actors.”
What’s the best nickname anyone has ever given you?
“I’ve got to go with ‘Darth Quaider’ right now. It seems to be pretty popular.”
TV show: “I watch a lot of reality shows. I follow ‘Celebrity Apprentice.’ I don’t follow ‘Jersey Shore’ or those shows, but otherwise I’m pretty open-minded.”
