Bruins-Islanders rookies play 1st of two games tonight
By Kirk Luedeke
The members of the Boston Bruins and New York Islanders rookie camps will square off at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Monday and Tuesday night.
The game on Sep. 12 is not open to the public, however tickets are available to the public for the second game on Sep. 13 (free to Islanders season ticket holders) with all proceeds from the gate going to charity.
A year ago, the Bruins hosted the rookie exhibition games at the TD Garden and won both. With the venue changing to Long Island, the Islanders hope to change their luck this time around.
The young Islanders feature top pick in 2011, center Ryan Strome, who finished third in OHL scoring with 106 points and is the junior teammate of B’s first choice Dougie Hamilton with the Niagara Ice Dogs. Other Isles top prospects like Nino Niederreiter, Casey Cizikas, Calvin de Haan and Rhett Rakhshani will also be in the lineup.
The Bruins announced that Mike Hutchinson will get the start in net Monday.
There is no planned NESN broadcast of the game.
