The Numbers Game: B's on pace to best last year's numbers

For the Bruins, it’s 51 games down and 31 to go in the regular season. After a fascinating run in November and December, the Black and Gold hit a lull when the calendar turned to 2012. But despite their recent struggles, Boston is still on pace to improve in a wide array of statistical areas from last year. 

Here’s a rundown on a few standout stats with a look at how the B’s wrapped up 2010-11 and what they’re currently on pace for this season:

* In eight games since returning from his five-game suspension, Brad Marchand has been assessed a grand total of two penalty minutes. The now-well-behaved winger racked up 75 penalty minutes in his first 37 contests.

* Jordan Caron had four shots on goal in the Bruins 4-1 win over Washington on Sunday. Caron had a total of four shots in his previous five games.

* Since tallying in three straight games from Dec. 17-23, Benoit Pouliot has scored just once in the last 18 tilts.

* Six of the NHL’s top ten plus-minus ratings belong to Bruins. Tyler Seguin leads the league at plus-31, Patrice Bergeron and Zdeno Chara are tied for third at plus-27, Brad Marchand, Chris Kelly and Johnny Boychuk are in a three-way tie for eighth at plus-24.
