FUN FACTS

Reilly Smith (4 pts last 4 GP)

Milan Lucic (6 pts last 7 GP)

Torey Krug (1 pt last 5 GP)

* A first-round pick of the Sabres in 2002, Dan Paille is playing his 19th game against his old club tonight.

* Dougie Hamilton scored the first goal of his NHL career in Buffalo in February against Ryan Miller.

Tyler Myers (2 pts last 3 GP)

Jamie McBain (0 pts last 4 GP)

Steve Ott (0 pts last 5 GP)

* Lynnfield, Mass., native Brian Flynn is playing his third career game against Boston. he has 1-1-2 totals in 10 games.

* Former Canuck Christian Ehrhoff had four points in five games against the B's last season.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

* Facing their first set of back-to-back games on the year, the Bruins are giving Chad Johnson his first start of the season. The Bruins' backup will get to take on the weaker of Boston's two upcoming opponents, with Tuukka Rask tasked with facing the vaunted Sharks tomorrow night at home. Johnson hasn't seen game action since the preseason, but Buffalo's averaged barely over a goal per game, so he should be able to earn the victory.

* Once Jon Lester takes the mound tonight for the Red Sox in Game 1 of the World Series, you're probably going to struggle to flip back to NBCSN to watch Game 8 of the 2013-14 NHL season for the Black and Gold. Admit it, guy who doesn't even know why he's reading this blurb about a near-meaningless hockey game right now.

* Remember how the Bruins-Sabres rivalry was really heating up over the last few years and seemed to escalate to a new level with John Scott's arrival in Western New York? Well, now that Lindy Ruff's gone, Patrick Kaleta's always suspended, Paul Gaustad has been traded and the Sabres are just about the furthest thing from a threat in the standings, there aren't a lot of reasons to get excited to watch games against tonight's opponent. There's young talent in this lineup, but not a whole helluva lot of familiarity.
