NEWS & NOTES

* The Wings enter tonight's contest with just two wins in their last 10 tilts. Detroit somehow managed to lose five consecutive games in overtime or the shootout during that stretch. Their only victories came against weak opponents in the Hurricanes and Sabres.

* The Bruins come in on an 8-1-1 run and are looking for their seventh victory in 10 road games this season. Boston's outscored the opposition 27-17 on the road so far in 2013-14.

* Pavel Datsyuk will miss his second straight game tonight. He was elbowed in the head by Senators defenseman Jared Cowen on Saturday.

* Henrik Zetterberg has been racking up assists (as you'll see below), but the Wings captain has gone seven games without a goal. He went six straight from Oct. 17-30, but still ranks second on the club with 10 tallies.

Reilly Smith (5 pts last 5 GP)

Patrice Bergeron (0 pts last 5 GP)

Dougie Hamilton (0 pts last 9 GP)

Johan Franzen (7 pts last 6 GP)

Henrik Zetterberg (7 pts last 5 GP)

Jakub Kindl (1 pt last 5 GP)

Dan Cleary (0 pts last 9 GP)

* Dan Cleary has one goal on 32 shots in 24 games this season. That strike came against Boston in Detroit's 3-2 win over the B's on Oct. 14.

* Daniel Alfredsson has 2-4-6 totals and is minus-3 in 10 home games. He's posted 2-8-10 totals and a plus-5 rating on the road.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

* Home ice hasn't been awfully kind to the Wings so far in 2013-14. In the last full NHL season (2011-12), Detroit owned a record of 31-7-3 in their barn and followed that up by going 13-7-4 at Joe Louis Arena during the lockout-shortened campaign. That's 21 non-victories in 65 games. So far this season, the Wings have already failed to win 10 of their 14 home tilts, going 4-4-6.

* One big reason for Detroit's struggles has been injuries. Virtually every member of the Wings' top six not named Zetterberg has been sidelined at some point in the early going. Sans their top-line center, Pavel Datsyuk, the Red Wings are a much weaker foe.

* Tonight we'll see a battle between two goalies having strong seasons that own not-so-hot numbers against the opposition. Jonas Gustavsson's been solid when called upon to sub in for Jimmy Howard, as he's 5-0-1 with a 2.35 goals-against average. However, he owns a 3-4-1 record and bloated 3.35 goals-against average against the B's. Tuukka Rask, one of the early leading candidates for the Vezina Trophy, is 1-2-1 with an .893 save percentage in four games against the Red Wings.
