Blue Jackets forward Derek Brassard ditched Salzburg EC after a few weeks with the team. Regardless of how justified his departure may have been, the Austrian club is attempting to take legal action.

Well, here’s a big downer: Adam McQuaid is recovering from a blood clot surgery he underwent in October and probably won’t be fit to return – you know, if there’s a season – until late January or early February, according to CSNNE’s Joe Haggerty.

History lesson

On this day in 2001, the Bruins spanked the visiting Canadiens by a score of 5-0. Rob Zamuner tallied twice for the Black and Gold, Bill Guerin (Wilbraham, Mass.) had a goal and an assist and Byron Dafoe stopped all 23 shots he faced to get the shutout. Jeff Hackett allowed all five goals on 32 shots for the Habs.
