Good reads

  • After the failure of last week’s labor talks, the NHL has canceled all games through Dec. 30.

  • ESPN’s Craig Custance ponders the impact term limits on contracts would have on the NHL’s middle class.

  • Red Wings forward Dan Cleary thinks both sides are close, even as the NHL wipes more games off its slate. Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press has the story.

Quick hits

  • Bentley’s Brett Gensler had a goal and an assist in Saturday’s 2-2 tie with Air Force. The junior forward now leads Atlantic Hockey with 26 points and is six points up on the league’s second-leading scorer.

  • Linus Lundin stopped all 34 shots he faced on Sunday, backstopping the Springfield Jr. Pics to a 1-0 win over the Valley Jr. Warriors. Springfield is now in second in the EJHL’s Southern Division with 29 points, nine back of the Jersey Hitmen.

History lesson

  • On this day last year, the Bruins overcome an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Blue Jackets by a score of 5-3 out in Columbus. Joe Corvo tallied twice to pick up the first two goals of his short-lived career as a Bruin, including the game-winner with 6:44 gone in the third period. Corvo’s strike in the final frame was the second of Boston’s three power-play goals on the night.

Entirely off-topic

  • Based on the teaser trailer, the next Stark Trek flick looks pretty phenomenal.
