UMass Lowell extended its winning streak to eight games last night, beating Providence by a score of 2-1. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 31-of-32 in the win for the River Hawks. Jon Gillies (South Portland, Maine) took the loss despite a 48-save effort.
The Monarchs will look to put an end to a two-game skid when they visit the Sharks in Worcester tonight. Manchester has won just twice in their seven matchups so far this season.
History lesson
On this day in 1999, the Bruins beat the living daylights out of the Nashville Predators, running away with an 8-1 win at the FleetCenter. Steve Heinze (Lawrence, Mass.) had two goals for Boston. A total of 14 Bruins had at least a point.
