After a considerably better showing in the second period, the Bruins will head to the third trailing the Penguins 4-2.
Marty Turco relieved Thomas to start the frame and has stopped 10-of-11 so far. The veteran netminder looked extremely solid in his first NHL action since March of 2011.
David Krejci cut the lead in half at the 1:56 mark, with Tyler Seguin and Milan Lucic picking up the helpers.
Pittsburgh pushed the lead back to three when a Chris Kunitz snap shot eluded Turco.
Once again, it was Krejci to the rescue. The center buried his 20th of the season with 9:59 remaining in the frame.
Boston outshot the Pens 16-11 in the second period.
Unfortunately for Boston, a number of injuries won't help their comeback effort in the final frame. After losing Adam McQuaid in the first period, Patrice Bergeron got hurt blocking a shot. Max Sauve, making his NHL debut, also got hurt and is done for the day.

Twenty minutes are in the books down in Pittsburgh where the Bruins are embarrassing the hell out of themselves Penguins lead 3-0.
With 3:24 gone, the B's were once again in an early hole as Aaron Asham's fourth of the season put Pittsburgh up 1-0.
As is often the case in day games, it didn't take long for Boston to fall behind by two. Matt Niskanen (face perfectly arranged) slapped home a shot after a feed from MVP frontrunner Evgeni Malkin to make it 2-0.
Boston got into a slew of penalty trouble late, leading to a 5-on-3 power play for 1:25 for Pittsburgh. Chris Kelly did a rock-solid job on the PK, but James Neal came in and slipped one through Tim Thomas' five-hole, which was approximately nineteen miles wide.
Dennis Seidenberg went off for slashing at 19:35, meaning the Penguins will begin the second period with more PP time to work with. It may come with Marty Turco in net for the B's.
Adding injury to insult, Adam McQuaid injured himself hitting Neal before Pittsburgh's second goal. He's out for the remainder of the game.
