ALBANY, N.Y. -- ECAC Hockey announced Monday that Quinnipiac forward Kelly Babstock has been named the league’s Rookie of the Year.

A freshman forward, Babstock becomes the second Quinnipiac player in a row to earn the honor, as goalie Victoria Vigilanti claimed the award last season.

Babstock, a Mississauga, Ont., native currently leads the league in goals (30), assists (28) and points (58) in overall. She currently leads all Division 1 freshman in goals, assists and points, and is second in points per game (1.61). She was named one of the 26 nominees for the prestigious Patty Kazmaier Award, given annually to the most outstanding player in Division 1.

The fifth-seeded Bobcats (22-11-3) are in the ECAC Hockey semifinals for the first time ever after sweeping No. 4 Princeton over the weekend by scores of 2-1 and 2-0. They play top-seeded Cornell in a semifinal game Thursday.

The other finalists for the Rookie of the Year award were Brianne Jenner from Cornell and Jackie Raines of Yale.
