High school hockey power rankings (No. 1)

Mike Vecchione of Malden Catholic. (Tim Paquette)

As teams across the region prepare for state tournament play, New England Hockey Journal is proud to unveil its first state-by-state high school power rankings.

Already this season has provided some surprises, like Massachusetts powerhouse Catholic Memorial failing to qualify for the Super 8 tournament for the first time since that event's inception in 1991. CM has won 12 of the last 17 Super 8 titles.

Malden Catholic gets the nod as the state's top-ranked team, thanks in part to its Division 1-bound top line of Mike Vecchione (New Hampshire), Ryan Fitzgerald (Boston College) and Brendan Collier (Boston University).

Teams are listed with ranking, season record through Feb. 25 and goal differential, where available.
