Editor’s note: This story originally appeared in the June 2011 issue of New England Hockey Journal.

Which sports teams did you grow up rooting for?
Being from the Toronto area, I was a Maple Leafs fan and a Blue Jays fan when they won those couple World Series so long ago.

What was the first car that you owned?
I had a Geo Tracker. It was like a girl’s version of the Jeep. I think it was an ’88.

What kind of jobs did you have before becoming a pro hockey player?
I worked at this Rent-All place, where you could rent any kind of equipment. I used to clean out the chainsaws with all the sawdust and oil and junk. It wasn’t very fun. I was glad I made the NHL.

If you were running for president, which teammate would you want to be your VP?
I’d probably go with Andrew Ference. He seems like a good guy, and he’s concerned about people’s well-being.

If a movie was made about your life, which actor do you think would be picked to play Chris Kelly?
If it’s what actor would probably play me, I’d guess the guy that played Fez (Wilmer Valderrama) on “That ’70s Show.”

FAVORITES

Movie: “I like ‘Rounders’ and ‘Good Will Hunting.’ Obviously, Matt Damon is the theme there. I think ‘Gladiator’ is a great movie, too."

TV show:
“It goes in spurts, but I’d probably say ‘Seinfeld.’”

Pregame meal: “Chicken and pasta, just like every other hockey player.”

Book:
“I read Bill Romanowski’s book (‘Romo: My Life on the Edge’) a while ago. That guy was a different guy, but it was a good read.”

Standup comic: Chris Rock

Restaurant: “If it’s a favorite restaurant anywhere, La Porto A Casa is a little Italian spot back in Ottawa that’s really good.”

Athlete outside of hockey: “I was a big fan of Michael Jordan growing up.”

NHL player growing up: Wayne Gretzky
