NU's Cronin added to U.S. National Team staff

Northeastern University men's hockey coach Greg Cronin (Arlington, Mass.) has been named an assistant coach for the 2011 U.S. Men's National Team, it was announced Wednesday by USA Hockey.

The 2011 IIHF World Championship will take place from April 29 to­ May 15 in Kosice and Bratislava, Slovakia.

USA Hockey also declared that Phil Housley and Barry Smith will be the other two assistant coaches, while Scott Gordon (Easton, Mass.) will serve as the head coach of the team for the second straight year.

Cronin recently concluded his sixth season as bench boss of the Huskies. The Arlington, Mass., native, who has led the team to its most victories (71) over the last four seasons, will return to the bench with the U.S. National Team for the second time in his coaching career.

Cronin was the assistant coach for the U.S.squad that finished fifth at the 1998 World Championship in Helsinki, Finland.
